OBESITY VERSUS OVERWEIGHT
While people with a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 30+ are considered obese, those with a BMI of 25.0 to 29.9 are considered overweight and are also at risk for many diseases like diabetes.
Over the past several decades our civilization has become more and more overweight. These days, 2/3 rd’s of American adults are overweight or obese, whereas in the 1980’s only half of Americans were overweight. Most Americans are now overweight. This increasing number is simply unacceptable, especially if we are footing the medical bills of all those overweight people.
Being overweight has become a growing epidemic, and we still have a long way to go before we can say we’ve made a noticeable turnaround.
