Large spikes in blood sugar will make you hungrier and will cause you to eat spontaneous things like junk food. When you eat sugary foods this causes a jump in your blood sugar. After a short while, your blood sugar drops and causes you to feel hungry. If you’ve ever eaten 2 bowls of sugary breakfast cereal, only to find that you are super hungry only 2 hours later, you can attest to the veracity of this experiment.
With this in mind, regular large spikes in blood sugar will have a negative effect on your progress towards losing weight. In other words, eating foods high in sugary carbohydrates will make it much more difficult to control the calories you consume and may even cause you to gain weight.
The Glycemic Index provides a standard from which to gauge which foods are more likely to cause a blood sugar spike.
